Just Moving to Biddeford?
Just moving to Biddeford? Welcome! Here in the City Clerk's Office, we can help you out with several of the steps that you will need to take during this transition to our community.
Notify the Post Office of Your New Address
The Post Office is located on Alfred Street, and the phone number is 207-283-8565.
Register Your Vehicle in Maine
If you are moving to Maine from another state, you have 30 days to obtain a Maine vehicle registration.
Biddeford is a full service municipality, so we are able to issue license plates and complete the total registration process right in our office. Please call the City Clerk's office at 207-284-9307 for more information.
To register, you will need all the necessary paperwork:
- Insurance card
- Previous registration
- Proof of your Biddeford residency - something with your name and physical address in Biddeford (not a P.O. Box)
You will be required to pay excise tax and other applicable fees.
If you currently have a lien on your vehicle, you will need to provide the name and address of the lienholder.
Obtain a Maine Driver's License
You will need to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles. The nearest DMV branches in our area are:
- Kennebunk DMV Branch, located on Route 1 in Kennebunk.
- Scarborough DMV Branch, located at the Cabela's shopping outlet.
You may register to vote at the City Clerk's Office. You will need to bring in identification (like a driver's license) and proof of your Biddeford address; P.O. boxes are not acceptable.
Keep in mind that in Maine, you are also able to register to vote at the polls on election day, with the correct proof of residency.
Register Your Dog
You will need to bring in proof of rabies certificate and a neutering certificate for each dog you want to register. Late fees are imposed after January 31st of each year.
Dogs that are neutered or spayed are $6 per year; unaltered dogs are $11 per year.
Dog licenses can also be obtained online between the dates of October 15 and January 31 of each year.
Obtain a Beach Sticker
A permit is required for Biddeford Pool, Middle Beach and Fortunes Rocks beaches. Beach permits are required each year from June 15 through Labor Day. You may obtain a resident beach permit at the City Clerk's Office, and you will need to provide the registration of the vehicle to which you will be putting the permit on.
Day permits may be purchased at the non-resident rate from the kiosks located in the beach parking areas.
