Absentee Ballot Requests

The City Clerk’s Office is now taking ABSENTEE BALLOT REQUESTS for the upcoming November 2, 2021 State Referendum & Municipal General (Candidate) Election.

You may request an absentee ballot by telephone (207-284-9307) or by coming into the City Clerk’s Office during the business hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You may also request an absentee ballot electronically.

Absentee ballot requests must be received by the City Clerk’s Office by 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2021, unless special circumstances exist. There will be no absentee voting on Friday, October 29 and Monday, November 1.  

Absentee Ballot Drop Box

A secure drop box for absentee ballots is located next to the back stairs of City Hall on the South Street side of the building. In order to ensure ballot security, this drop box is only available during regular business hours and is checked regularly throughout the day.

What's on the Ballot?

Municipal General Election

All voters will vote for their choice of candidate for the following seats:

  • Mayor
  • Councilor At Large (Two Seats Available)
  • School Committee (Seven Seats Available)

Additionally, voters in each Ward will be able to select their choice of candidate for each of the following seats for their Ward:

  • Ward Councilor
  • Warden
  • Ward Clerk

State Referendum Election

There are three questions on the State Referendum: a Citizen Initiative, a Bond Issue, and a Constitutional Amendment. The Maine Secretary of State has prepared a Citizen's Guide to the Referendum Election which details the referendum questions, a summary of the legislation associated with each question, the meaning of a yes or no vote, and more.

Voting at the Poll on Election Day

All voting on Election Day will take place at the Biddeford High School Tiger Gym, located on Maplewood Avenue. The poll will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Parking is available in the large parking lot across the street from the Tiger Gym, as well as some limited “Voter Parking” right on Maplewood Avenue. Disability Parking is located in the parking lot adjacent to the Tiger Gym and is accessible via the Main Street entrance. Signs for parking will be posted on Election Day.

Registering to Vote

You may register to vote at the City Clerk’s Office. You will need to bring in one accepted form of identification and proof of your Biddeford address; P.O. boxes are not acceptable. You are also able to register to vote at the polls on election day, with the correct proof of residency. Learn more...
