Staff Engineer

The City of Biddeford, one of Maine’s fastest growing communities, is seeking a highly-motivated, talented individual to serve our diverse Southern Maine Community.

The City’s Engineering Department is accepting applications for a Staff Engineer position to join its collaborative team in serving the community and meeting regulatory requirements. Candidates should have experience with the planning, design, and permitting of civil engineering, land development, and infrastructure projects. In addition to strong technical knowledge, applicants should have field construction experience and be proficient in AutoCAD and hydraulic/hydrologic modeling programs.

This position will report directly to the Director of Engineering, who reports to the Public Works Director, and will not only provide professional assistance to the Engineering Department, but also to the Planning Department, Public Works Department, and other City management staff.

Position Requirements:

- BS degree in Civil Engineering

- Registered Professional Engineer (PE), or the ability to be licensed within one year

- 4+ years of relevant land development engineering experience

- Experience with detail site layout and grading; drainage and storm water management design; utility design; and erosion & sediment control design

- Experience with local & State regulatory agency permitting requirements (MaineDEP, MaineDOT, ACOE)

- High level of proficiency in AutoCAD Civil3D

Desired Qualifications:

- Knowledge and experience abiding to MaineDEP’s MS4 General Permit & Chapter 500

- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills

- Outstanding organizational skills and attention-to-detail

- Strong sense of accountability, urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines

- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

- Ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously
