Deputy Director of Finance

The City of Biddeford is seeking a Deputy Finance Director to fill a complex professional, administrative and management position within the Finance department, and support the Finance Director in oversight of various financial functions and systems throughout the City. This position services as the interim director when the Finance Director is unavailable. The deputy provides leadership within the Finance Department, including coaching, mentoring, training department personnel; in addition, they are expected to give input to the Director on team performance, and to perform quality assurance monitoring.

The ideal candidate for this position should have extensive knowledge of governmental accounting principles (GAAP), current GASB pronouncements and the GAAFR (Blue Book). The candidate should be able to analyze current processes and envision a path towards optimization of the same.

While the Deputy receives direction from the Finance Director, the Deputy will be expected to exercise considerable independent judgement in performance of the daily functions of the position. The Deputy Director will directly supervise the Payroll Specialist and the Accounting Clerk (AR/AP), and will work closely with the Tax Collector and Deputy City Clerk.

The City utilizes Tyler Technologies’ Enterprise ERP (Munis) solution, and will give preference to candidates with demonstrated experience in this space. The Finance Department is in the process of updating many long-time practices to more fully utilize the Enterprise ERP suite of products.

A successful candidate should be able to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with personnel who don’t have a deep governmental finance background. Experience preparing and delivering training in groups of 2-10 people, as well as creating process documentation is desired.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
