The City of Biddeford is seeking an experienced, principled individual to serve as its next City Clerk. Spanning a total area of 59 square miles, Biddeford provides a full range of municipal services with a budget of $34 million, including capital outlay of $1.4 million.

Biddeford, one of the earliest European settlements in the United States, is a growing and transforming community which has evolved into a warm, welcoming, and diverse city with easy access to Portland. It is a coastal community which includes the resorts of Biddeford Pool, Fortunes Rocks and Granite Point.   • The City of Biddeford operates under the Council/Manager form of government. The Mayor and the nine members of the City Council (two are elected at large and seven from each of the City’s seven wards elected every two years) are led by the Mayor and the Council’s elected President. The City departments include General Government, Public Safety, Public Works and Public Services.
  • The City Clerk will manage all voting and elections for the City. They will also be responsible for assisting in the operations of Council meetings including preparing agendas and taking minutes. The City Clerk serves as the liaison between the City Council and the public. This role requires an individual with excellent communication skills, the ability to provide exceptional customer service and strong organizational skills.
  • The City Clerk also provides duties required by Maine law and the City Charter, including overseeing the records of births, marriages, and deaths, as well as assisting in the enrollment of voters and overseeing the applications for candidates for local office. In addition, the City Clerk oversees local and State elections within the City.

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration, or other applicable field, with 3-5 years of Clerk experience. Any combination of education and experience that provides the equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.

The salary range is to $76,000 to $100,000 DOQ. The City of Biddeford offers a comprehensive benefit plan which includes contributions to health insurance, life insurance and MPERS, optional 457 plan, and paid vacation, sick, personal and holiday time.
