The City of Biddeford, Maine- commercial center of York County and suburban community of Portland- is seeking an experienced, principled City Planner. Biddeford is a growing and transforming community that has evolved into a warm, welcoming, and diverse city with easy access to Portland. It is a coastal community, which includes the neighborhoods of Biddeford Pool, Fortunes Rocks and Granite Point. With much to offer, the City is a vibrant place where families want to live, work and play. Spanning a total area of 59 square miles, Biddeford provides a full range of municipal services with a budget of $34 million, including capital outlay of $1.4 million.

We are looking for a creative and passionate leader in the Planning community to match the growth and excitement in our community. Candidates should have at least a Bachelor’s, preferably a Master’s, in Planning or a related field, and at least 3-5 years of Planning experience.

The City Planner is responsible for:

  • Subdivisions, site plans, conditional use permit applications and other planning applications; development projects; City’s land use regulations and approval procedures
  • All aspects of Planning Board meetings
  • Studies, reports and related information for decision-making purposes related to land use and zoning issues
  • Assisting the public with questions concerning City zoning and planning matters; meeting with those from the public as needed
  • City’s land use policy and Comprehensive Plan
  • Developing ordinances and ordinance amendments
  • Applications for State and Federal assistance; coordinates planning activities with the regional planning commission, State and Federal governments and other City departments
  • Coordinating with Code Enforcement Officer regarding Zoning Ordinance requirements and Planning/Land Use issues
  • Conducting periodic reviews of the City’s Land Use ordinances and plans, including the Comprehensive Plan, and makes recommendations to the Planning Board and City Council for needed revisions
  • Maintaining data on the City’s growth and development, traffic patterns, land use, demographics and natural resources

Pay: $78,000.00 - $98,000.00 per year
