Community Liaison/Lead Paint Program Assistant

Job Responsibilities

  • 1:1 engagement of at-risk and lead-poisoned children and their families in the home or community setting, helping them to access the City’s Lead & Healthy Homes Program and receive appropriate referrals to community resources (e.g., local healthcare, emotional and social support services, public health, etc.).
  • Liaising with case managers from the Maine Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Unit to help prevent lead poisoning/re-poisoning while the household awaits lead abatement work.
  • Coordinating temporary relocation of households during abatement work.
  • Partnering with the local public health system to provide households with lead poisoning prevention strategies and free health programming and resources.
  • Program administrative support.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Two years’ experience as a community liaison, social / case worker, public health worker, customer service professional, or similar human service role. CSW, MHRT, LSW, or similar human services certification preferred.
  • Experience demonstrating sensitivity to the needs of low-income households, who are the primary target of the professional work delivered in this role.
  • Multilingual candidate highly desired.
  • Notary Public certification required either before or immediately after hire (certification paid by Program).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite or similar word processing, email, spreadsheet, and document preparation software.
  • State of Maine Lead Inspector/Lead Risk Assessor/Lead Supervisor and Healthy Homes certification will be required either at hire or immediately thereafter (training paid by the Program).
  • Valid State of Maine driver’s license and reliable transportation.
