About our Department

The Biddeford Police Department is an active, progressive department in Southern Maine that responds to over 26,000 calls per year. Our forward-thinking department operates with the most state-of-the-art equipment and has a strong focus on training and development.

As one of Maine's largest cities with a population of over 22,000, Biddeford's 80 law enforcement employees stay engaged and challenged in their daily work while enjoying a different pace of life than departments in larger metropolitan areas.

The Biddeford Police Department received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) in 2018. Accreditation is a mark of distinction, professional excellence and high standards for public safety entities.

Our Community

Biddeford is a vibrant community ideally located just 25 minutes south of Portland, Maine and an hour and a half north of Boston. Our 59 square miles encompass combined rural, urban, and oceanfront and riverfront beauty.

Biddeford has experienced an economic revival centered on a nationally-recognized creative community in our downtown, recently exemplified in the Heart of Biddeford’s selection as a 2022 recipient of the Great American Main Street Award. The downtown food scene is thriving, with recent features in travel publications like Food & Wine Magazine, Travel + Leisure and Thrillist. Our former textile mills in the core of our flourishing downtown have been transformed into a community where people live, work and play. With a median age of 29, Biddeford's downtown is the youngest in Maine.

Southern Maine is an ideal place to get outdoors in all seasons, whether for hiking, skiing, hunting, swimming, kayaking, or surfing.
