Making Preservation a Priority

Wednesday, June 7, 2023

The Biddeford Historic Preservation Commission, in collaboration with Saco Historic Preservation Commission, presents “Making Preservation a Priority” - The Economic and Community Development Benefits of Historic Preservation: A talk by Deb Andrews, Former City of Portland Historic Preservation Program Manager.

This lecture will discuss the role of historic preservation as a powerful tool for economic and community development and why it should be integrated into any historic community's land use planning strategy. The lecture will also describe the risk and consequences of taking a laissez faire approach to preservation and the vulnerability of historic resources to short term thinking. Successful preservation initiatives from several Maine communities will be featured.

Property owners, developers, builders, history buffs – all welcome!
