[ARCHIVED] City Seeking Members For Public Art Committee

Art_C

The City of Biddeford is embarking on a program to establish new, and preserve existing, public art. Public art is any work of art designed for public spaces that is accessible to the general public. Public art enriches the quality of life in our city and can help enhance Biddeford’s identity.

To begin a program such as this, the City is forming a Public Art Committee. This committee will initially create public art policy and procedures, then oversee and guide the process of establishing public art projects that may include: identifying a suitable location for art, identifying funding, commissioning a project through a competitive process, selecting an artist, and managing the project through permitting and final installation.

The ideal committee will include persons with experience in art and design, both professional and otherwise. Art professionals, visual designers, architects, engineers and planners are effective candidates to serve on this committee, as are community members with a strong interest in art but with no professional background. One City Councilor and one member of City staff will also serve on this committee. The committee will comprise no less than seven and no more than nine members.

The City is now seeking committee members. To be considered for appointment to the new Biddeford Public Art Committee, please send a brief (250-word) description of interest and qualifications, resume, and contact information to Brad Favreau at brad.favreau@biddefordmaine.org on or before March 13, 2020. Mayor Alan Casavant will make the final selection of committee members. An announcement of selected applicants will be made on or before April 2, 2020.
