Happy Holidays from the City of Biddeford!
From all of us here at the City of Biddeford, we wish you a joyous holiday season and a safe and happy New Year! If you've stopped by City Hall or the Biddeford Recreation office in the last week or two, you may have noticed some extra flair in many of our offices! After a brief hiatus, our staff brought back our annual holiday decorating contest and it got competitive, with costumes, baked goods, trivia games for the judges, and even help from Santa! This year’s winning display in the City Manager’s Office featured a “Whoville” theme from How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
Mayor Casavant, Councilor Belanger, Heart of Biddeford Executive Director Delilah Poupore, Biddeford Saco Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jim LaBelle, and GIS Manager Greg Copeland served as the judges and enjoyed lots of homemade treats during the competition.
We hope that the displays brought you some holiday cheer this month!
This year, the Christmas Day holiday will be observed on December 26 and the New Year’s Day holiday will be on January 2. The half-day holiday for Christmas Eve will be observed on December 22.
City Hall is regularly open Monday & Tuesday, 7 AM – 5 PM and Wednesday & Thursday, 8 AM – 4 PM. As always, you can visit www.biddefordmaine.org/onlineservices to complete business online 24/7.
Holiday Trash Collection
There will be regular trash and recycling pickup during the weeks of Christmas and New Year's Day. The Recycling / Transfer Station will close at 10:45 am on Saturday, December 24, and will reopen at its regular time on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.
Biddeford residents do not need to use Pay as You Throw trash bags for overflow trash on the dates listed below:
Monday, December 26
Tuesday, December 27
Wednesday, December 28
Thursday, December 29
Friday, December 30
After Friday, December 30, PAYT bags will once again be required for all trash that does not fit in your green trash bin.
Holiday Recycling Tips
Help the City of Biddeford reduce recycling contamination this holiday season! Keep these tips in mind before you throw any holiday wrappings in your blue recycling bin. And remember, when in doubt, throw it out! Recycling incorrectly can actually create more waste by contaminating entire batches of recycling. Please make sure to take advantage of our free overflow trash collection instead of filling your blue bin with extra trash.
Free Christmas Tree Curbside Pickup
When you're ready to take down your Christmas tree, you are welcome to leave it outside on your regular trash collection day for free pickup. Trees will be collected between Monday, January 2 and Friday, January 13.
Trees can also be brought to the Recycling Center (371 Hill Street) during regular operating hours:
- Tuesday - 7:00 AM to 2:45 PM
- Wednesday - 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM
- Thursday - 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM
- Friday - 7:00 AM to 2:45 PM
- Saturday - 7:00 AM to 2:45 PM
