[ARCHIVED] Weigh in on Local Climate Action

A Task Force of Biddeford volunteers is working to create a Climate Action Plan for the community. This is a strategic plan that lays out policies and programs for reducing a community's greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to the impacts of climate change.

The Task Force is asking people who live, work, and play in Biddeford to take a 5-minute survey to identify their biggest climate impact concerns. The survey can be accessed online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BiddClimate and paper copies are available at City Hall, McArthur Public Library, and Heart of Biddeford. The survey will be open through Monday, May 15.

“Biddeford’s Task Force has been working hard to create a Climate Action Plan focused on changes that will have the biggest impact,” said Biddeford Mayor Alan Casavant. “Local actions will save money, create jobs and keep Biddeford resilient. Please take the survey to help create a plan that works for Biddeford!”

The survey asks respondents to begin thinking about what they would like to do to adapt to and slow climate change, both on a community and a personal level. The survey is just the first of a number of events, meetings, and public opportunities to learn more about climate change and talk with fellow community members about how the community will adapt.

Task force members are all Biddeford residents and include chair Steve Reiter; William Emhiser, City Councilor; Meaghan Daly, Climate Social Scientist; Beverly Thorpe; Timothy Boston, Jacob Aman; Junelle Soucy; Max Zakian; and Kiara Frischkorn.

Biddeford’s climate action work is taking place at the same time as Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, and Kittery’s planning process, and in partnership with the Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability.
